Teams for Summer Season
It takes a lot of planning ahead to put teams together each season and it would be really helpful to us if you can indicate as early as possible if your child is or is not playing in the Summer season. We will need to nominate our teams before the September school holidays start.
We are really keen to gets some U8s teams for summer season so if you know any players born 2015-2016, please invite them along to a training session - 4:30pm on Mondays for boys and Thursdays for girls.
Please encourage any other family or friends of all age groups to come along to one of our trainings before the end of this season if they may be interested in playing in the Summer competition.

Are you interested in coaching?
Have you ever thought about getting involved in coaching a junior or senior team? We will be looking for more coaches, adults, and juniors, for the upcoming summer season. The club can provide full support and assistance with accreditation. Please contact our Coaching Coordinator Simon Gable on 0418 753 132 if you are interested.
Meet the Coach
In this section we would like to highlight some of our wonderful coaches who volunteer their time. This season we have 4 junior coaches ranging from 13 -16 years old. One of our newest coaches is Monty who is 16 years old and plays in our U18 Boys division 2 Team. He is currently an assistant coach for the U10 Boys and is doing an awesome job under the guidance of Janet, one of our experienced coaches.
We caught up with him recently and asked him a few questions.
Q: What got you starting as a coach or inspired you to start?
A: Fun experience and helpful in the future Q: What do you like about being a coach? Teach young people collaboration and teamwork
Q:What are your values and focus on the game?
A: Chance for a positive experience and individual success
Q: Why do you think it's a good idea for people to start coaching?
A: Good experience and lifelong skills and fun
Congratulations Velma
Congratulations go out to Velma Gara, coach of Phoenix U12 Girls Purple and U14 Girls Silver teams. Townsville Basketball have recognised three of the greatest indigenous players to ever wear the Townsville Basketball colours and contribute to the game in our community in Michael Cedar, Chris Cedar and Velma Gara. The Cedar-Gara Bursary Program for disadvantaged Indigenous Youths has been set up to enable players to afford to play the game. Every season the Townsville NBL1 players will wear a special uniform that will be auctioned during the game. Townsville Basketball will use the funds raised through the auction of the Gujuda Gulumbulah uniforms to offset registration and/or game fees so that we can expose our game to as many prospective ballers as possible. Townsville Basketball will work with representatives from Indigenous Basketball Australia and Basketball Queensland to establish the guidelines for application before our Summer Season tips off in October.
